Most of our patients are able to have intravenous sedation. However, some medical conditions rule it out as an option. As part of your consultation, Dr. Dougherty, Dr. Klotz, or Dr. Schlossberg will review your medical history and discuss anesthesia options with you.
Intravenous sedation is the administration of a tranquilizer drug into the bloodstream using an extremely thin needle. The sedative produces, in most people, a very deep relaxation and state of well-being. Most people have very little memory of the procedure afterwards, which our patients love. Even the most anxious individuals can be treated successfully using this technique.
Keep in mind that you will need a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment, as you will be unable to drive. The effects of IV sedation will subside within 24 hours, and you will be able to return to your normal activities.
