Summer Newsletter 2010

After a long, cold, snowy winter, we decided that there’s no better place to study the most innovative techniques in implant dentistry than in Florida with our team.  We combined a bit of sitting by the pool with some advanced training at the Misch International Implant Institute in Orlando Florida.  The lectures were informative and interesting. We spent some great team time together and we brought home tons of new information for you, our Bethesda Sedation Dentistry family.

As Adrienne’s introduction into the amazing world of implants, she was thrown in feet first with this weekend packed with the latest thinking in dental implants.  The energy and enthusiasm she showed at this course, and the excitement she now has when consulting with the team and our patients about implant care has brought an even greater level of fervor and passion to our practice.  She was amazed to hear how bone melts away when you don’t have teeth in it, but how implants can actually prevent this from happening.   Just ask her!

After two straight days of studying, we were ready to kick back a bit.  On recommendation from the concierge at the hotel, we ventured to Cuba Libre for some mojitos and Cuban cuisine.  It was a great experience, and everyone enjoyed the Latin-themed restaurant that celebrates the romance of the island nation.  Although we all found ourselves back in Maryland in time for our Monday morning patients, Kimberly’s bathing suit stayed in Florida for an extra week of fun in the sun.

Only a week after returning from Florida, Kimberly and her husband, Charles, journeyed to the Boulders Resort in Carefree Arizona.  During their stay, they enjoyed lots of hiking, a hot air balloon ride across the Sanoran Desert, and a Jeep tour through Apache land.  During the last day of their trip they flew to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is located on the Hualapai Indian Reservation.  They walked on the skywalk and boated down the Colorado River. It was a trip they will remember for a lifetime, especially since Kimberly’s well traveled bathing suit made it back home this time.  Come see photos from both of these trips on frames in our reception room and in Kimberly’s room at the office.

On a sad note, our longtime office mascot Snailey passed away in May.  The Beta fish Bruiser, her long time companion died of a broken heart several weeks later.  In happier news, Pinkie the new Beta is settling in nicely.  It has been reported that Pinkie enjoys doing the backstroke to relax after a hard day at the office.

Stay tuned for our autumn newsletter to hear what exciting times we all had during the second half of the summer.

A happy, safe and healthy summer to you all.

All our best,

The Team at Bethesda Sedation Dentistry

2010 Spring Newsletter

March 25, 2010

We hope everyone had a lovely holiday season! Everyone here is ready for the spring thaw and we bet you are too.

If you remember back to our last newsletter, the doctors were in the planning stages for the team’s holiday party. We started the evening at the show “Ice” at the National Harbor. The exhibit was beautiful and we all really loved seeing the ice carvings and going down the ice slides. As we enjoyed dinner afterwords, the season’s first sizable snowfall started. It was absolutely beautiful as the fluffy snow settled around the huge lighted tree at the harbor. At the time, the team couldn’t have foreseen the amount of ice and snow Mother Nature would send our way in the weeks ahead!

The team is doing well. Kimberly has enjoyed the snowfall this year and has been skiing on a couple of occasions. My name is Adrienne, and I am the newest team member. I came to you from the Intercollegiate Athletics Department at the University of Maryland. I have enjoyed meeting everyone that has been in to visit since I started last December, and I hope to meet the rest of you soon.

Rob and Deb are currently participating in a year long course to incorporate the most advanced techniques for implant surgery into their already extensive backgrounds. The course focuses on the future status of implants and the latest bone grafting techniques and sinus surgeries. I should mention that they were in sunny Orlando as the rest of the team endured the season’s first blizzard! The airports were so heavily backlogged that they flew into Hartford, Connecticut, rented a car and drove back home in order to care for all of you who were scheduled!

Some exciting news to also note: The entire team will be heading to Orlando with the docs in May! We will be learning and updating ourselves on the latest and greatest techniques available in implant dentistry. The docs are truly an inspiration and reminder that we all must be continuously learning so that we may serve you more effectively. The sunshine in Florida will be an extra added bonus! We’ll update you when we get back and tell you all about what we learned.

Not that any of us on the team is truly superstitious but after the second blizzard hit us in February we got the idea that our holiday trip to see “ICE” hadn’t been such a great idea after all... You can rest assured, this year the planners for the 2010 holiday party may go with a Caribbean theme! Maybe something warm and toasty with a calypso beat, and drinks with little umbrellas!

Have a safe and healthy, happy spring!
Adrienne, Dr. Rob, Dr. Deb, Kimberly, Cathy, Dora, Diane
Your dedicated team at Bethesda Sedation Dentistry

**Now that spring has sprung and the sun is brighter in the sky…

2009 Newsletters

WINTER NEWSLETTER
11-17-2009

We all wanted to thank you for a wonderful year and for your kind and generous welcome to Dr. Deb and Dr. Rob; the fifth generation of doctors in our practice. With the addition of this husband and wife team, a practice that started during World War I, is now poised to move well into the 21st century with the kind of gentle, warm and highly capable care that you have come to expect from Bethesda Sedation Dentistry.

We wanted to update everyone on the events and notable occasions that have taken place with us during the latter part of the summer, and the first part of the fall. 2009 was a year of giving back for our team in Bethesda. As the summer quieted down, our team was gearing up for a trip to Appalachia, where they provided much needed dental care to a town hidden in the Appalachian Mountains. During this charitable trip, Bethesda Sedation Dentistry alone treated hundreds of needy citizens from the town of Wise, providing routine dentistry to a population in need. Shortly after their return to Bethesda, Kimberly our exceptional hygienist, traveled to Belize on a one week dental mission trip where, with her husband Charlie by her side, she treated many disadvantaged people who, had it not been for her charitable nature, wouldn’t have been able to receive dental care. In fact, Charlie who is an executive at IBM even got his hands wet and assisted in the treatment of numerous patients.

You may think that after all of that travel, everyone would want some time at home, but that wasn’t true for Iona. She was fortunate enough to meet up with her mom in Switzerland recently. Her daughter Ellie joined her for this trip, which evolved into three generations of women gathering from different parts of the globe.

More recently, Ed, Rob and Deb attended a renowned two week hospital anesthesia rotation at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Patterson, New Jersey. While at the hospital, they received very personalized didactic and hands on training to learn the latest and most effective sedation techniques. We are eager to share this newly acquired knowledge with you to give you an even more comfortable sedation experience.

As the winter season approaches, we are planning our team holiday party but, because it’s a surprise, we won’t even make mention of where it’s going to be in this newsletter. It wouldn’t surprise us one bit if they read this newsletter in hopes of finding out where we’re taking them. You’ll simply have to stay tuned to our spring newsletter to find out where we went and what happened.

Until then, have a warm, healthy and safe winter, and holiday season. We’ll chat again in a few months but, should the desire arise, please stop in before then to let us know what you’ve been up to.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Adrienne, our newest team member. She’ll likely be the first person you speak with when you call, and the first big, bright smile you see when you arrive!

All our best;

Team at Bethesda Sedation Dentistry
