Technology

9000csAt Bethesda Sedation Dentistry, our dentists are constantly upgrading our technology to provide you with the best possible dental care. Below, we have detailed some of our most advanced technologies that can be used to improve the safety, precision, and efficacy of numerous treatments and procedures available at our practice.

CS 9300 3D Imaging Technology

Our state-of-the-art CS 9300 system is a 3D imaging tool that utilizes cone beam CT technology to help our dentists efficiently diagnose and plan treatments. The system’s advanced software allows you to see the origin of your dental problems so you can make an educated decision about your treatment options. Its incredible efficiency often means less office visits, and you won’t have to wait for film to be developed or endure a messy molding process. The crystal-clear and incredibly detailed 3D, Panoramic, and Cephalometric images can also improve the accuracy of your diagnosis and help our dental team better explain any problems we find. Another benefit of the CS 9300 system is that it can prevent excessive radiation exposure by scanning only small sections of your mouth.

3Shape TRIOS® Intraoral Scanner

The 3Shape TRIOS® intraoral scanner is an advanced digital imaging system that allows our dentists to take dental impressions with far greater accuracy, efficiency, and comfort than traditional impression techniques. Equipped with a chairside monitor and innovative computer software, it also significantly improves doctor-patient communication and custom treatment planning for dental crowns and bridges, clear braces, and the placement of dental implants. Using the 3Shape TRIOS® wireless scanner wand, Dr. Deb or Dr. Rob can capture an incredibly precise image—including realistic coloring—of your oral structures from all different angles. The data is then digitally transmitted from the scanner to the chairside monitor, which displays an exact impression of your teeth and gums for you to view simultaneously with your dentist. Together, you can identify issues and/or areas of concern, discuss your oral care options, and walk through all facets of proposed treatment plans from start to finish—ultimately enabling you to be fully knowledgeable and confident in your dental care.

DEXIS CariVu™

CariVu™ is an innovative imaging technology that allows our dentists to detect cavities (caries) and cracks in teeth using high-power light transmission as opposed to traditional x-rays. With this transillumination device, near-infrared light is emitted through all structural components of the targeted tooth via a handheld wand. While the enamel appears transparent, any cavities or cracks present will absorb the light for easy and precise detection. The results of the scan can be viewed in real time on a chairside monitor, allowing you to see what your dentist sees.

A chief benefit of the CariVu™ system is its ability to accurately identify cavities and cracks in their earliest stages, allowing for prompt treatment that is often simpler and less expensive than dental work that might be needed if an issue was to go unnoticed and untreated for some time. In addition, the device uses non-ionizing radiation during the detection process, making it an excellent adjunct diagnostic service for pregnant women and other individuals who are not able to receive traditional x-rays.

Envision One cDLM 3D Printer

Created by EnvisionTEC—a world leader in 3D printer manufacturing—the Envision One cDLM 3D dental printer is considered the most high-tech desktop printing system on the market today. Among numerous advanced features, the Envision One cDLM boasts shorter wavelength emission from a self-calibrated LED light source for enhanced precision, layerless technology for incredibly smooth product surfaces, and dual linear sides for exceptional stability during the printing process. Utilizing this state-of-the-art system, our dentists can fabricate customized Invisalign® trays and various dental restorations right here in the convenience of our office with optimal efficiency and precision.

Surgically Clean Air™

During dental procedures, the use of certain equipment can create and disperse aerosols containing bacteria, viruses, and chemicals throughout the treatment room. If left uncontrolled, these microorganisms and particles can land on various surfaces and/or remain suspended in the air to be inhaled by others, leading to a heightened possibility for contamination or the spread of contagion among dentists, staff, and future patients.

To protect against this at Bethesda Sedation Dentistry, our treatment rooms are equipped with Surgically Clean Air™—a highly advanced filtration system specifically designed to rid the air of microbes and other potentially harmful microscopic substances found in dental aerosols. When air is pulled through the system, a special HEPA-Rx filter first removes 999.998 percent of bacteria and virus particles that are 0.1 microns in size, which is the typical size of viruses. Next, an activated carbon insert absorbs detrimental chemicals and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and concentrated exposure to high-intensity ultraviolet light inside a titanium dioxide chamber helps to destroy anything that remains. Finally, the newly purified air is charged with negative ions just before leaving the system, helping to create a re-energizing effect once it re-enters and circulates throughout our treatment rooms.

Ultimately, Surgically Clean Air™ is a top-of-the-line system for maintaining a pristine and healthy dental environment, and it is yet another way we are pleased to help optimize the safety of both our patients and our team.
