The goal of the first test is to identify which forms of bacteria are responsible for your symptoms. Knowing this information will help our Bethesda team craft a more customized treatment plan that truly targets your needs.

The second test is about identifying your risk for an advanced periodontal infection. Knowing your likelihood of developing a serious case of gum disease will help us plan for your future, and it will be an important guide for future dental exams and cleanings.

In the case of the last test, oral cancer — not gum disease—is the primary focus. Cases of HPV-related oral cancer are on the rise, and you don’t have to be a smoker or drink excessive amounts of alcohol to be at risk. OraRisk HPV helps doctors identify whether or not you may have a strain of oral HPV that could result in oral cancer so that proactive care can be provided, if necessary.
